MSC and Gruppo Investimenti Portuali sign a 33-year concession to develop the Bettolo terminal container in Genoa

Genoa, 9 June 2018 – Consorzio Bettolo, formed by Itaterminaux Sàrl (65%) and Seber Srl (35%), announces the signing of a 33-year concession agreement for the development and operation of a semi-automated container terminal in the Calata Bettolo area of the Port of Genoa.

The terminal will have an initial capacity of 720,000 TEUs and be equipped with cranes for serving container vessels of over 20,000 TEUs. The terminal is scheduled to start operating in 2022 and will serve both MSC vessels and those of Seber Srl clients.

The development of the Bettolo terminal is the fruit of collaboration between Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Occidentale (West Ligurian Sea Port System Authority), Interminaux Sàrl (part of MSC – Mediterranean Shipping Company SA) and Seber Srl (controlled by GIP).

As MSC Group chairman and CEO Diego Aponte commented, “the agreement signed today is a very important milestone for Liguria’s port system and was made possible by substantial collaboration on the part of local government, which demonstrated a systematizing approach that will benefit the Ligurian economy. We can’t wait to see the terminal fully operational”. While Gruppo Investimenti Portuali CEO Giulio Schenone said that “the development of Bettolo will ensure that large container vessels can dock in Genoa, and it will be complementary to our operations in the adjacent Terminal SECH”.
